Delegates at the 7th International Petroleum and Natural Gas Enterprises Conference (IPEC 2024) in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province on Thursday (17th October 2024) received marine fuel industry updates related to China’s largest bunkering port. China Petroleum Circulation Association (CPCA) shared Zhoushan, the fourth largest bunkering port of the world, delivered 7.04 million metric tonnes (mt) of marine fuel in 2023, at the Global marine bunker development focus meeting session.
The latest figure showed a narrowing bunker volume gap between Zhoushan and third-place Fujairah port in the United Arab Emirates. Comparing 2022 to 2023 data, the gap between the two decreased from 1.5 million mt to 440,000 mt. To date, there are a total of 20 companies engaged in bonded bunkering operations at Zhoushan. They utilised the 86 anchor positions of the five major ship refuelling anchorages of the port.
Stakeholders promoted the use of mass flowmeters (MFMs) at Zhoushan to solve some old "difficult problems". This initiative led to a "Barge Mass Flow Meter System Certification Cooperation Agreement" being signed at the event. The signatories of the agreement were:
